'Barbie' Summer Starter Pack: Clothes, Accessories, More

Jul 29, 2023

So, you’ve seen Barbie and now you’re completely obsessed with the aesthetic of Barbieland (impeccably designed Sarah Greenwood and decorated by Katie Spencer) and all of the Barbies that inhabit it.

You’re not alone. Barbiecore is once again a trend, and if the amount of people in pink at every screening is any indication, it’s here to stay (at least for a little while longer).

While it’s probably not sustainable to turn our houses into dreamhouses (although you could cover your walls in Backdrop’s Barbie Dreamhouse Pink interior paint), there are enough Barbie-themed items and trendy pink products out there to give you the best day ever, every day.

This Barbie Summer Starter Pack is exactly that: a few products to help you kickstart your best Barbie summer.

Inspired by two of Barbie’s signature movie looks, we put together dress and swimsuit combos.

If you loved Stereotypical Barbie’s pink gingham look, this square neck dress from Cider, with a whimsical rosette detail ($30) makes for a perfect pair with Adore Me’s Vivien Contour bikini, available in both straight and plus sizes ($60).

If pink isn’t exactly your color, not to worry — Stereotypical Barbie wears a blue striped outfit that’s equally adorable and still screams Barbiecore. Bloomingdales and Aqua teamed up with Barbie to create a capsule collection that includes a blue striped bodycon mini dress with heart-shaped buttons ($98). Pair that with a mixed stripe-and-dot one piece swimsuit from Summersalt ($71, original price: $95) for a perfect blue look.

Either of these looks works perfectly with the Kitsch x Barbie nylon hair elastics set to keep your high ponys tight all day long, and of course, a pink heart-shaped vanity mirror from Five Below ($5) is a getting-ready must-have.

Are you feeling like Original Barbie today? Back in 1959, the original Barbie doll came with a pair of white cat-eye sunglasses. This BP. pair from Nordstrom ($15) uses a marble pattern on the frames that adds a subtle shine and some dimension to a classic shape.

If “all pink everything” is your fashion philosophy, Quay has you covered with Contoured, a funky angular frame in a scorching hot pink ($85).

The bag of the season, every season, is — of course — the lululemon belt bag. After a recent restock, the original 1L belt bag is available in a pretty-in-pink pastel shade ($38). The slightly larger 2L belt bag ($48) will hold a little extra, and right now, you can get it in a bold bright pink (formally known as Raspberry Coulis/Wild Berry).

While everyone knows Barbies pretty much only wear heels, a much more practical and well-loved shoe makes an appearance in Barbie: the Birkenstock.

The classic Arizona style gets a trendy makeover, complete with big buckles and a dusty rose-pink color ($160).

Barbies in Barbieland don’t actually drink, but Barbies in the real world need to stay hydrated, especially in the scorching heat! Keep your water cold all day in one of the cult-fave 40 oz. tumblers from Stanley ($45, in a pretty pink swirl shade) and HydroFlask ($45, in a brand new shade of pink).

And when day turns to night and your Barbies come over for a blowout party, break out the Dragon Glassware gold and pink crystal wine glasses ($45) that were used during the movie’s party scene.

First thing’s first: a Barbie must protect herself from the harmful rays of the sun in the real world. SPF is important! But new viral brands are making sunscreen fun and interesting. Take, for example, Kopari’s Sun Shield Body Glow ($39), a gel sunscreen with SPF 50 protection that leaves your skin glowy thanks to gold shimmer mica. For an equally shimmery glow on your face, try Supergoop! Glow Screen ($38), an SPF 40 facial sunscreen.

Now that that’s out of the way, it’s time to hit the beach (or the backyard). Funboy collaborated with Barbie on a fun line of pool towels ($60) and floats ($40). You can also beat the heat in a Funboy x Barbie kiddie pool ($45) — they’re not just for kids anymore!

After a long day of taking in the sun, it’s time to skate! If you, like Ken, want to go nowhere without your rollerblades, consider a colorful pair from Impala Skates ($140), who collaborated with Barbie on the inline skates seen in the film. Not sure you have the balance for blades? Impala also makes quad skates ($62) like the pink ones pictured above, and to make sure you stay safe, a pink set of protective gear ($50).
